For Public Sphere Week I have decided to do my project on downtown Evansville and try to persuade people to go and see what there is to offer. After spending a week downtown for a recent job training, I was amazed by all the little shops and restaurants that are located downtown that I have never heard of. After talking to several business owners I was informed that the roadways around downtown are often times too hard and confusing for people to use which affects their business. I have decided to join the marketing club at USI to help me persuade people to go and experience what downtown has to offer.
I believe that the best way for me to get my information and findings across would be through a brochure. In the brochure I plan to list several businesses downtown that most people have never heard of and try to persuade them to visit these locations. In these brochures I can include a map and directions that will get visitors right to the location without the fear of driving downtown. Another idea that I have is to display flyers around USI informing students of cool and interesting businesses and restaurants for them to visit. I also hope to distribute some sort of coupon or free treat to the people who visit my table on Public Sphere Week. I am also trying to get a business to donate a free meal of free hair cut that I can raffle off on Public Sphere Week. I will make flyers to hang around USI informing students about the raffle that will take place during Public Sphere Week.
This is a great idea. I've lived in the community for all of my life and "Downtown Evansville" has always been a point of emphasis. I believe you've got a great start. Maybe you could include events that occur downtown throughout the year? I know Evansville has 2 or 3 car shows a year, and also Thunder on the Ohio during the summer is also a big selling point for Evansville. You could include somethign about the new downtown arean that has been on the block for some time now. And don't forget about Casino Aztar. I know students are strapped for cash a lot of time but for our population that is over 21 on campus this could be fun. I love your idea and if you need anymore suggestions let me know. Also thanks for the suggestions you sent my way! Good Luck!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for commenting on my blog! I was recently downtown for job training and realized that there was several very interesting places that I had never been to before or even heard of. So, I chose to pick this topic for my public sphere day activity. I think that your ideas will really help my project! The idea of providing events that take place downtown is an idea I didn't even think of! Good luck next week!
